[미래3기통신]The embrace in hawaii

연수에 참가했던 문화일보 장재선 부장이 졸업식에 발표했던 시입니다.
연수과정을 이끌었던 짐 데이터 교수와 남북한의 평화적 미래에 관한 강의를 해주셨던 글렌 페이지 교수에 대한 존경을 담은 시로 'JIM A DATOR'와 'WOW!', 'HAWAII!'라는 각운을 맞추었다고 합니다.
2013, The embrace in hawaii
Just as they embrace each other passionately,
I know why we come in hawaii in the month of May.
Man who was born by the end of the Great Depression
embraced Man who began his life shortly before that.
At that time I saw their hug, I took courage to envision
the future of human village.
Desolated name who grew up without father
has made a great effort to open the way to the future,
with upholding the majesty of present life.
A name who fought korean war in the past
has exclaimed ‘No More Killing’
after throwing away military medal for brave act.
Though a fully ripened summer of Hawaii is apt to decay, the hug of two man
overpower the smell of rotting season.
On the beach harmonized between natural moon and artificial fireworks, their hug made me freshly breathe the Pacific breeze.
Reviewing rare island where the sea meets the mountain and the urban gets at rural, made me realize the beauty of intermingling.
When My colleague said that the dog with the bird smile with pleasure here, I also smiled mischievously.
Only I know the meaning of my smile, which isn’t something forgotten the hard labour at sugar cane field and the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
When I saw the shade of Banyan Tree having the branches which look same but different,
! got a inspiration about win-win world.
Here isn’t well-versed people in the way to open tomorrow.
Aha!, in the manoa I get to know that
We can only see futures differently, think futures differently.
As we approach the year of 2043 and beyond,
In human world growing, collapsing, disciplining, transforming,
l will ask like a curious kid,
I will embrace passionately
the present keeping away past, the future throwing away present.
2013, 하와이에서의 포옹
5월의 하와이에 왜 왔는지를
나는 그 때 비로소 알았다.
대공황의 그림자를 안고 태어난 남자와
그 끝 무렵 세상에 온 남자가 마노아에서 포옹할 때,
사람의 마을이 마주해야 할 미래를
앞날에도 생각해 볼 용기를 얻었다.
아버지가 없이 자란 외로운 이름이
미래로 가는 길을 열며
스스로의 나날을 늘 오늘로 지켜온 것은,
과거의 전쟁에 참가했던 이름이
용감함이라는 수컷의 훈장을 버리고
더 이상 죽이지 말자고 호소하는 것은
하와이의 번성한 여름에서
썩는 냄새를 지우고,
달과 불꽃이 어울리는 해변에서
태평양의 바람을 신선하게 부풀게 했다.
바다와 산이, 도시와 시골이 만나는 곳에서
섞인다는 것의 아름다움에 벅차오르게 했다.
여기선 개도 웃고 새도 웃는다고
누군가 말했을 때 함께 웃었으나
사탕수수 밭의 노역을, 진주만의 폭격을
잊어버린 웃음은 아니었다.
다르지만 하나인 무수한 가지를 지닌 반연 트리 그늘이
서늘했던 것은
마노아가 준 선물을 품을 수 있어서였을까.
내일을 여는 길에 도가 통할 수는 없는 법,
다르게 보고 다르게 생각하는 것일 뿐.
2043년이 오기까지, 혹은 그 너머까지
더욱 어린아이처럼 묻고 물으며
깊숙이 포옹하리라.
과거를 멀리하는 현재를, 현재를 버리려는 미래를.
